A Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization that has represented independent oil and gas interests for well over 80 years, the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) was born out of a meeting called by President Herbert Hoover to discuss the conservation of America’s dwindling natural petroleum resources. Upon gathering in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the nation’s oil operators, royalty owners, and land owners joined forces to form a new national group.
Known today as the IPAA, this organization continues to serve as a critical source of industry information, statistics, and economic analysis. The IPAA also lobbies on behalf of its members before the U.S. Congress and other influential federal agencies. IPAA members work tirelessly to spread the message that 95 percent of American oil and gas wells are currently owned by independent producers.
